In a groundbreaking initiative to promote education and upward mobility, the Mineworkers Union of Namibia has launched a national scholarship program for the children of union members.
The program, named the “Solidarity Scholars Fund,” will support up to 100 students annually in fields ranging from engineering and geology to education and public health. Each recipient will receive full tuition and a living stipend.
MUN President Elias Munjua announced the initiative at a rally in Keetmanshoop, saying: “The future of our families cannot be confined to the mines. We must dig deeper into opportunity.”
The program is funded through union dues and a new partnership with the Namibian College of Engineering and several local foundations.
