The union operates throughout the whole mining and energy industries of Namibia including any other sectors/operations in which labour is still not organised and in any industrial activity in which employers and employees are associated for the purpose of:
Searching for or winning a mineral;
Crushing, reducing, dressing, concentrating or smelting a mineral;
Producing a product of commercial value from stones;
Extracting, concentrating or refining any constitute of a mineral;
Generating and/or transforming any form of energy or any service thereof. Activities will include the preparation and construction of generating units.
The scope includes those undertakings, enterprises, services, maintenance, operating, administration or activities incidental or ancillary to the mining and energy industries provided the words “mineral” is defined as any substance, whether in solid, liquid or gaseous form, occurring naturally in or on the earth and in the sea and having been formed by or subjected to a geological process and any other sector/operations in which labour is still not organised.

Pillars of operation
To Organize: To organize and unite into one workers union all workers employed in the mining and energy industries in Namibia including any other sectors/operations in which labour is still not organized, so as to be able to struggle effectively and victoriously for their economic and social welfare
To negotiate on behalf of the members and settle any disputes between members and their employers on the basis of collective bargaining
To improve constantly the wages and salaries as well as the working and living conditions of its members
To struggle for the improvement of job security of members and to advance their employment prospects
Education: To Educate and concientise members on relevant subjects such as Namibia’s industrial history and to highlight the role played by the workers in the country’s industrial and social development
International relations and networking: To establish contact and maintain a close relationship of co-operation and solidarity between Mineworkers and Other industrial Union federations inside and outside of Namibia for the sake of labour movement unity.
