MINE WORKERS UNION OF NAMIBIA
The Mineworkers Union of Namibia (MUN) traces its formalization and inauguration back to the significant date of November 23, 1986, a momentous occasion that took place at the Roman Catholic church in Katutura. The establishment of the union was underpinned by a dual commitment: to actively contribute to the liberation of the country and, perhaps more crucially, to tackle the pervasive issue of the contract labor system. This system, prevalent at the time, posed a substantial threat to the interests of workers, subjecting them to economic exploitation across various sectors. MUN, therefore, emerged as a crucial advocate for the rights and welfare of mine workers, dedicated to addressing these pressing challenges and fostering a fair and equitable working environment. Since its inception, MUN has played a pivotal role in championing the cause of labor rights, continuously evolving to meet the changing needs of its members and adapting to the dynamic landscape of the labor market in Namibia.
