Press Release

17 February 2024

The Mineworkers Union is committed to job security for its members.

MUN National Headquarters, Windhoek, The MUN is committed, as it has been for the past 35 years, to defending and preserving our members job security. This is part and parcel of our Constitutional and Legal obligations towards our members and is done well within our structural functionalities which incudes Branch, Region and National levels respectively.

Despite being precluded by the Labour Act 11-2007, we insist to go as far as tendering representations even at the internal disciplinary hearing levels including all other aspects within the given sphere of our structures. This wide ranging support is done with the oversight of the MUN Head Office, National Executive Committee and the office of our National President, as the situation demands.

Members are encouraged to form part of our leadership structures to determine their own internal processes and governance in terms of the MUN Constitution. This inclusion will allow them to help chart the direction forward and ensure that their needs are reflected in decisions and interventions. Ultimately, this contributes to a stronger labour movement and union where we all compliment each other from Branch, Region and National, to avoid structural representation distortion.

The MUN prides itself on its open-door policy and welcomes ideas and positive criticism. Any inquiries regarding the MUN involvement or assistance in defending her members can be referred to the MUN Administrative Head, General Secretary George Fillipus Ampweya.
